Gardening in the shade can sometimes be tricky, unless the correct plants are selected.  Is it dry shade, or wet shade?  Are there competing tree roots?  Our Shade Garden is filled with a variety of plants including hostas, tiarellas, tellimas, lungworts, coral bells, sweet woodruff, shade-tolerant daylilies, and more that can tolerate the dry shade found under trees, where roots suck up most of the moisture and nutrients.  You’ll notice a heavy layer of mulch.  That really helps, as well as a soaker hose that we turn on in times of drought.  We have several shade gardening spots on the farm.  The main shade garden is just west of the Cottage, but you can also see shade-loving plants in parts of the Fairy Garden, the Folklore Garden, and the Enchanted Forest.
